"Santa Barbara" - a term used in Los Angeles to describe the areas of Santa Barbara, Montecito, and Goleta, is a small, wealthy community located about an hour and a half north of Los Angeles along the coast. Sometimes referred to as the American Riviera, it is named, like so many cities in California, after the mission that was established there, and it is part of a thin strip of "shoreline" communities that stretch from Ventura to Morro Bay. The Santa Barbara Mission is sometimes called "The Queen of the Missions" for its beauty and its hilltop location overlooking the sea. Likewise, the community of Santa Barbara is one of the most beautiful in the state, with a magnificent blend of Victorian, Spanish, Mediterranean, and even Moorish architecture, nestled in between the ocean and the St. Ynez mountains. The population of the area is still small - the area has perhaps 150,000 residents. The downtown areas are well-kept and filled with old buildings and parks, the beaches are clean and wide. Historical landmarks abound. A few minutes north of town, in Goleta, is the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB).
Santa Barbara's small population cannot support a large population of the undead. There are only four established vampires in the area, although the temporary residents can occasionally bring the population closer to ten. The "Prince" of Santa Barbara is the Ventrue Anthony Wilmington. All four permanent residents comprise the primogen council, and all four are on relatively good terms with each other. They are primarily interested in protecting Santa Barbara and maintaining it as a haven of beauty and solitude.
